Harness The Spirit’s first fundraiser has been a huge success for our inaugural focus charity, Pancare Foundation. Thanks to the generosity of so many within our industry, Harness the Spirit has been able to raise just over $30,000 for Pancare in our first year of operation, though the sale of two yearling fillies, our raffle, and donations of cash and services from many individuals and businesses. Pancare was selected as our inaugural charity for the important work that they do in raising awareness, supporting families and funding research for upper gastrointestinal cancers.
Consigners Llowalong Farms (Lot 75 Soho Tribeca filly from Holdthatdream) and Maurlen Equine (Lot 673A Soho Tribeca filly from Oneminutetodream) donated two fillies to go through the 2023 Nutrien Yearling Sales at Sydney and Melbourne with the proceeds to go into the fundraising pool. Through the donation of services from Nutrien Equine Standardbred, Equilink Horse Transport, Joe Bibby Farriery, Campbells Comments and Southcombe FH we've been able to maximise the amount raised by significantly reducing costs. Through the ring, the girls brought $20,000, with Jason Turnbull and Kerryn Manning OAM taking ownership resprectively.
Through principal Peter Judd, Benstud Standardbreds made a cash contribution of a thousand dollars, while the remainder was raised through the raffle. Again this was made possible by the team here at Llowalong Farms working hard to sell tickets and also the donors who put up some incredible, high-value prizes. The prize list and winners can be seen below. At Melbourne, we were lucky enough to have a few representatives from Pancare Foundation join us to see how we do things in the sales barn, and they were blown away by both the professionalism and generosity of this element of our industry. We look forward to following the careers of the two fillies with them and introducing a new group of people to harness racing while raising awareness for this important cause at the same time.
